Product Feature: Floating Islands and Planting Baskets

Planting islands can be used to increase your planting space- whether you are limited on planting shelves around the edges of the pond or you just love plants!  Moss can be used to cover the floating material. This helps achieve a very natural look that will add natural beauty to any pond or water feature!

Floating planters are beneficial to ponds and water features in a number of ways. They provide fish with shade which is especially important in the warmer months of summer. The coverage they provide also gives the fish places to hide from potential predators such as blue herons. They also become a living part of the pond once planted and allowed to grow. The plant roots serve as a source of food for the fish and also as a surface area for fauna and other beneficial bacteria to grow on. The roots also act as a living phytofilter which helps remove things such as phosphates, ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites (resulting in a much cleaner and healthier pond).

Native wildlife such as birds, turtles, and frogs appreciate floating islands as well! Frogs will lay their eggs on the edges of these floating islands and will also use the surface to bask on. Turtles will appreciate the basking area as well. It’s truly a sight to see when your pond becomes a living part of nature! These wildlife refuges will bring you and your pond inhabitants hours of enjoyment!
