Fire, Frost and Fun

Many of you tell us how much you enjoy spending time beside your pond. This time of year weather starts to chill your cherished backyard retreat. We wanted to share some warm ideas to elongate the time you can enjoy by your pond.

The simplest way to add warmth around your pond is with a patio fire bowl. This is a semi contained, movable fire pit and a great choice if you have a patio or lawn next to your pond. Fire bowls come in a range of material from metal to stone and even glass. Fire bowls also have a range of fuel sources from simple wood to gas. Whichever your style and budget, there is a fire bowl for you.

Another warm idea is a stone fire pit built with paver blocks or natural stone. The options are endless when it comes to designing a fire pit or outside fireplace. Endless materials, design options and ease of construction make this a great homeowner project. Fire features should be kept 6 ft from your pond and on the downhill side, so run off flows away from your pond when it rains. We suggest making a low walled fire pit because while sitting around radiating heat will be able to warm you. If you already have a fire feature consider dressing it up with beautiful birch logs thoughtfully placed inside or a gravel accent around the base.

Consider stone benches- they are beautiful, durable and last forever. Stone is a great furniture choice. Simple cut logs are also a festive casual seating option.

This decorative fire element will be useful trough out the year to take the pond side chill off, making warm memories. Please be aware installing a fire feature next to your pond may make for some jealous freezing fish.
